Who is responsible
Both sites are mine: saparnis.dev, about interactive installations, and me.saparnis.dev, about software. I am Paulius Šaparnis, Vilnius, Lithuania. For anything about your data, write to paulius@saparnis.dev.
Visit counter without cookies
Every visit is counted by Umami, a counter that runs on my own server at stats.saparnis.dev. It records the page, the site that linked to it, the kind of device and browser, the approximate country and city, how fast the page loaded, how long it was open in front of you, and what was done on it: a game played, a film watched, a question opened, my email address or phone number clicked or copied, the contact form started or sent (never what you wrote in it), and, on a phone that plays a screen, whether it joined and how far it got.
It sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser; to work, its script reads what any page can see, such as the size of the screen and the language. It does not keep your IP address: it turns it, together with your browser, into an anonymous code that changes every month, so it can tell visits apart but not who you are. The records are deleted after 14 months.
Pages made for one client, a proposal at saparnis.dev/for/… or a technical plan, are counted too: whether the page was opened, the game on it played, how far it was read and whether a question was sent from it. There the reader’s company is known from the page itself. The private part of the link is never recorded.
The legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing how the sites are used and whether a proposal reached its reader. You can object at any time: switch the counter off for this browser here, or set your browser to ask sites not to track it (Do Not Track), and it counts nothing on either site.
Google Analytics, only with your yes
If you allow it, Google Analytics counts visits as well and shows me more: how people found the sites (a link, a search), how long they stayed and whether they came back, and the same moments as above. It never sees what you write in the form.
Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by a code, which last up to 13 months. It does not store your IP address. Advertising features and Google signals are switched off, so nothing is used for ads. Google Analytics is a service of Google Ireland Limited; the data may also be processed by Google in the United States, under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The detailed records are deleted after 14 months.
With the same yes, the counter on my own server also records where on a page people click and how far they scroll (a heatmap). It does not record the page itself or anything you type.
The legal basis is your consent. Without it, Google Analytics and the heatmap are not loaded at all. Your answer is kept for 180 days in a cookie named saparnis_consent, shared by saparnis.dev and me.saparnis.dev, so you are asked once for both. To change it, use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.
The contact form
What you enter (your name, email address, phone number if you give one, and your message) is sent to my mailbox as an email. I use it only to answer you and to work with you, and I share it with no one. The server keeps none of it; to stop spam, it only counts for an hour how many messages came from your connection. The emails stay in my mailbox for as long as our conversation or project needs them, and I delete them if you ask. The legal basis is your request and my legitimate interest in answering it.
The games and the message wall
When you play from your phone, it stays connected to the site’s server while the game runs. Your moves, and a message if you send one to the wall, go to the screen and are not stored.
Server logs
Like most web servers, mine records each request: the IP address, the address asked for, the time and the browser. The records help keep the sites working and safe and are deleted after 14 days. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in a site that works and is secure.
Cookies and what is kept in your browser
| Name | What it keeps | How long |
|---|---|---|
| saparnis_consent | Your answer to the cookie question, for both sites | 180 days |
| _ga, _ga_… | Google Analytics, only with your yes | 13 months |
| saparnis_count | Only if you switch the counter off: that you did | 2 years |
| prize | A prize won in the game, until the message that carries it is sent (session storage) | Until the tab is closed |
| pitch:… | On a proposal page: that its game was played or a question sent, so it is not offered again (local storage) | Until you clear it |
| preferred-locale | The language you chose on me.saparnis.dev (local storage) | Until you clear it |
Nothing kept in your browser is sent anywhere, apart from the Google Analytics cookies, which go to Google.
Who else handles the data
Hostinger International rents me the server in Vilnius, Lithuania, on which both sites, the counter and the game relay run. Google Ireland provides Google Analytics (only with your yes) and my mailbox, where the messages from the contact form arrive. No one else receives the data, and nothing is sold.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data I hold about you, to correct it or delete it, to limit its use or object to it (the counter has its own switch above), and you can take back your consent at any time. Write to paulius@saparnis.dev. If you think your data is mishandled, you can complain to the State Data Protection Inspectorate of Lithuania, vdai.lrv.lt.
